ULC S527 Management Stations Requirements

UL 864-listed Computer Specifications

The following UL 864/ULC S527-listed computer models can be used for Desigo CC fire installations:

NOTE 1: See also UL 60950/UL 62368-listed Computer Specifications.
NOTE 2: Interconnecting wiring between a stationary computer and the computer's keyboard, video monitor, touch screen, or mouse-type device should not exceed 2.5 m.
NOTE 3: 43" monitors (UHW-DISP-LM-TS/UHW-DISP-LM-NT) are supplied with wall mounting bracket kit # 50-11452-003 (included in monitor box). The Comark user guide, part # 05-14263-300-A (included in the monitor box), describes how to install the monitor using this wall mount kit.

The following tables illustrate the recommended use of the PC models in the management platform architecture and technical specifications.
Regarding system size, please apply the following criteria:

  • Small /Medium systems - Up to 50,000 system objects
  • Large systems - From 50,000 to 150,000 system objects

Uninterruptible Power Supply

If an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) is required for your system configuration then the UPS must meet the requirements of CSA-C22.2 No. 107.3, Standard for Uninterruptable Power Systems and the applicable requirements of ULC-S527.

NOTES:

  • The UPS shall be installed in accordance with CSA C22.1, Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, Safety Standard for Electrical Installations, Section 46 – Emergency Power Supply, Unit Equipment, Exit Signs, and Life Safety Systems.
  • For maintenance and repair, a means shall be provided to disconnect the UPS while maintaining continuity of power to the fire signal receiving and transmitting equipment, if applicable.
  • According to the ULC requirements, 4 hours of standby operation is required if there is a backup generator. If there is no backup generator, then 24 hours of standby operation is required.
  • The UPS system must provide a trouble signal to the fire signal receiving and transmitting equipment indicating the following abnormal conditions:
    • UPS switches from the primary power source to the secondary power source.
    • UPS trouble.
  • UPS must be installed in a secured location.
  • On employing the means for disconnecting the UPS while maintaining continuity of power to the fire signal receiving and transmitting equipment to perform maintenance and repair, shall result in a non-latching supervisory signal or trouble signal at the fire signal receiving and transmitting equipment.
  • The input and output of a UPS system must have a means of permanent connections. The permanent connections must conform to CSA-C22.1, Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, Safety Standard for Electrical Installations, Section 32.

Rack Mountable Bracket

The management station can be rack-mounted or desktop-mounted. When rack-mounted, the equipment consists of the following:

For ULC-S527/ULC-S559, all communication connections from the management station must be mechanically secured.
You must use the Comark equipment listed in the following table to securely mount the management station inside a UL listed 60950-1 or 62368 rack enclosure.
There must be no other equipment in the same rack space.
