General

The General expander is where you provide the information necessary for start and stop optimization, and heating operation calculation. The information provided in the Temperatures, Heating Set Points, and Cooling Set Points sections are used by SSTO in calculations to determine optimal start and stop times for heating and cooling.

For some fields, the following buttons display:

Button

Description

The Data Point button allows you to enter a point in the field. Drag-and-drop the point from System Browser.

The Number button allows you to enter a number in the field.

Operation

Item

Description

Start Optimization

Stop Optimization

Night Operation

Virtual Start/Stop

These boxes specify whether that type of optimization or operation is enabled or not. If a box is checked, the optimization is enabled. You can check more than one box. If no boxes are checked, SSTO is disabled.

The Virtual Start/Stop option disables Start Optimization, Stop Optimization, and Night Operation. You can then only view data for these sections.

Virtual Start/Stop is disabled when any of the other boxes are checked.

Allowed Operation

Specifies the type of operation that can take place in the zone. You can check one or both of the following:

  • Heating
  • Cooling

It is recommended that you enable both Heating and Cooling, even if there is heating only or cooling only in the zone, since this allows for any future changes in the specifications of the zone.

If neither are selected, SSTO is disabled.

Desired Operation

Specifies the operation that is allowed at a given time (Seasonal). It is recommended that you enter a season point whose value represents the allowed operation (heating only in winter or cooling only in summer) at a given time.

> Click the button and drag-and-drop a point from System Browser.

> Click the button and check either Heating or Cooling, or both.

Temperatures

Item

Description

Outside Temperature

The point name that stores the outside air temperature. The outside air temperature and the zone temperature are used to calculate the start and stop times. It is recommended that you enter an outside air temperature sensor point in this field.

> Click the button and then drag-and-drop an outside air temperature sensor point from System Browser.

> Click the button and type a value.

Zone Temperature

The point name or value of the current temperature of the zone. The outside air temperature and the zone temperature are used to:

  • calculate the start and stop times.
  • determine if an early start will occur (even if the Fixed algorithm is selected).

It is recommended that you enter a zone temperature sensor point in this field. If you type a value in the Zone Temperature field, SSTO calculates the start and stop times without the zone temperature. Therefore, the start and stop calculations may not be as accurate as with a zone temperature sensor point.

You can do one of the following:

> Click the button and drag-and-drop a zone temperature sensor point from System Browser.

> Click the button and type a value.

Heating Set Points

Item

Description

During Occupancy

Defines the heating setpoint to which SSTO warms the zone. SSTO uses these values to:

  • calculate the start and stop times for zone heating.
  • determine if an early start will occur (even if the Fixed time shift is selected).

NOTE: An early start of heating will NOT occur if the Zone Temperature is above the During Occupancy parameter. This is true for all Time Shift options.

It is recommended that you type a setpoint value in this field.

You can do one of the following:

> Click the button and drag-and-drop a point that stores the heating setpoint from System Browser.

> Click the button and type a heating setpoint value.

NOTE: If the value here is greater than the During Occupancy value for the Cooling Set Point, SSTO will use the average of those values for both values.

During Vacancy

Defines the heating setpoint to which SSTO warms the zone while in Vacant (VAC) mode. You only need to complete this field if you checked the Night Operation box.

It is recommended that you type a setpoint value in this field.

You can do one of the following:

> Click the button and drag-and-drop a point which stores the heating setpoint from System Browser.

> Click the button and type a heating setpoint value.

NOTE: If this value is greater than the During Vacancy value for the Cooling Set Point, SSTO will use the average of those values for both values.

Cooling Set Points

Item

Description

During Occupancy

Defines the cooling setpoint to which SSTO cools the zone. SSTO uses these values to:

  • calculate the start and stop times for zone cooling.
  • determine if an early start will occur (even if the Fixed time shift is selected).

It is recommended you type a setpoint value in this field.

You can do one of the following:

> Click the button and drag-and-drop a point which stores the cooling setpoint from System Browser.

> Click the button and type a cooling setpoint value.

NOTE: If this value is greater than the During Occupancy value for the Heating Set Point, SSTO will use the average of those values for both values.

During Vacancy

Defines the cooling setpoint while the zone is in Vacant (VAC) mode. You only need to complete this field if you check the Night Operation box.

It is recommended that you type a setpoint value in this field.

You can do one of the following:

> Click the button and drag-and-drop the point which stores the cooling setpoint from System Browser.

> Click the button and type a cooling setpoint value.

NOTE: If this value is greater than the During Vacancy value for the Heating Setpoint, SSTO will use the average of these values for both values.
